Share Your Reasons

By Melissa - Posted on 03 February 2009

Quick – list ten reasons you enjoy coming to Folklore Village. Are you counting them on your fingers? I bet you are! I’d love to read your 10 reasons to come to a FV barn dance or to enjoy a Cajun weekend, to invite your friends to a concert, to bring your family to a Saturday Night Social…you get the picture.  If you'd like to just share one reason, that's okay too! We are starting a “10 reasons to…” campaign. Soon you will start seeing cards, comments, etc. about ten reasons to participate in one of our programs. I’d like your help with this. I can list a lot of reasons to come here, but as a staff person I’m sure I have a different perspective than you.

Please enlighten me! If you would be kind enough to hit “add a comment” below and list your ten reasons (or 50 reasons!) to attend a certain event, or just come to Folklore Village in general, I would really appreciate it.

To start things off I’m going to share ten reasons why I love working at Folklore Village. (These are in no particular order...I couldn't rank them if I tried!)

1) People smile. A lot. Where else can you work where there is constant joy from the people you serve?
2) The food. (The only time I get a square meal is during Festivals and the week following because of the scrumptious leftovers!)
3) The view out my window (Oh, wait…I’m always working, never staring out the window!)
4) The stair workout (Seriously - do you know how many times I climb the stairs here? This makes up for the calories gained in #2)
5) I get to clog during work. (I also get to un-clog …I’ve become quite good at dealing with plumbing issues!!)
6) I have the opportunity to learn from people constantly – both from people from around the world (which always thrills me) and folks in my backyard (we have amazing neighbors.)
7) I get paid to play. How cool is that?
8) I am able to watch people grow. Not in the “getting older” sense, but in the sense of watching people put down deep roots while at the same time stretching towards the heavens. Seeing this happen is delightful. When it happens to me it’s a blessing.
9) Seeing the light in a child’s eyes when they figure out one of the “magic broom games.” (Or, for that matter, seeing that light in an adult’s eyes when they figure it out!!)
10) The “wow” factor. It happens all the time – from watching a magical dance party during Christmas Festival, to listening to an out-of-this-world blues musician, to seeing a child dance their first waltz, to hearing laughter float out the windows on a starry summer evening...the list goes on and finishes with those moments I just sit back, watch and shake my head in sheer amazement at the beauty that surrounds me here.

Okay - it's your turn!
