Snow Fort
I find myself squinting as I look out my window at Folklore Village. The new snow is incredibly bright and it's making me smile. There's just something great about looking out over a crisp, clean landscape that makes me happy. It's like a new slate for the wind, our foot prints, animals and children to create upon.
Snow is an amazing thing. It levels the playing field instantly. It gives us all something to talk about and relate to. We all put on ridiculous outfits that make us look more like a parade float balloon than a human. We all waddle around in our layers and boots. We all grimace at the wind. We all have to shovel out.
I'm pretty sure we also all think about being a kid. Did the blizzard make you want to build a snowman? Or fall back into it's softness and make a snow angel? Perhaps it brought back memories of sliding down hills or challenging your siblings and friends to snowball fights. With so many giant snow piles around it's all I can do to not grab a shovel and start carving out a snow fort.
Somehow snow has an age old power of inspiring both aggravation and joy. It brings sparkling views, sculpted landscapes and back breaking work. It brings giggles and groans. However, without all that shoveling and plowing, where would we get the snow piles to build our forts and fortresses? Where can we dig down and bury our treasures and tunnel through to the other side?
Folklore Village is kind of like that snow fort. It's a place to be a kid. To dig through the layers that build up in our lives when are aren't expecting it. It's a place to let your heart melt and your imagination fly. It's gives a time to challenge yourself while at the reaching back to the simpler times. Folklore Village provides programs, people and space where you can laugh, live and let go. It's kind of like a fresh blanket of sparkly snow that lightens up the world around you for a while and begs you to come play in it.
I'm off to find a shovel and hit the snow pile just around the corner. Come find me. I'll be the one giggling, carving tunnels and scooping out secret compartments to hold my dreams. Don't worry. I'll make a room for you.
