Midsummer Festival, July 2-5, 2009- CANCELED

Sadly, after  much discussion and deliberation, Folklore Village has been forced to cancel our Midsummer Festival this year. (Yes, we too have sad frowns right now.) This was really something we did not want to do, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions in order to care for something you love – and we love Folklore Village. Though we are willing to take some financial risks in order to provide a fun festival for you, this year’s enrollment is simply too low to justify the economic loss. The other factor is the amount of energy and spirit people bring to this festival. We learn, laugh and grow with each other. This is a large part of what this place is about (and why it works so well)! Without enough people we know your time will not be as enjoyable as you deserve. And you deserve the best! We greatly apologize.

Please know we wish we could spend the Fourth of July weekend with you, and know you would be here if you could.

Please look for the Midsummer Festival again next summer! :-)

Check out  this great video our friend Jackson Eagan produced for us during one of our Midsummer Festivals. This  was Jackson's Eagle Scout Project. We are so honored he chose to share his talents with us.

In Memorium:

All of us at Folklore Village are saddened by the passing of  Dr. Anne Pittman (1918-2008), co-author of " Dance a While," the book that is the authority of folkdance. (This book is near and dear to Folklore Village. The seventh edition was dedicated to our founder Jane Farwell.)   While reading her obituary we were surprised to learn of her other very renowned life - she was truly a pioneer of women's collegiate tennis, blazing new trails as a player, coach, educator and national leader in the sports. Dr. Pittman's life was truly inspiring and she was a role model for many. To read her wonderful story of her life, please read the lovely article in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's website.

We have had generous contributions made to Folklore Village in memory of Dr. Anne Pittman and all she has done for the world of folk dance. If you are interested in adding to this memorium please contact us at (608) 924.4000.
